February, 2016

Dear Nagel Middle School Parent(s):

Our final parent conferences for this school year will be held the evening of Thursday, February 25th from
4:30 – 8:00 pm. To streamline the scheduling of conferences, Nagel uses an online program. Available conference slots will fill up on a first come, first served basis, so the sooner you can schedule your conference the better. The window to schedule appointments will be open from February 12th-February 25th. Due to limited availability, please schedule a maximum of two conferences with core team teachers. You may also schedule conferences with encore teachers. Please keep in mind that if you feel a conference is not necessary at this time, we still encourage you to join us for our informational sessions. Students are invited to participate in conferences with parents. If students do attend, they must remain with parents at all times.

Is college in your son or daughter’s future? Have you thought about financing a college education? Do you need more information about how the financial aid process works? If so, please join us on February 25th at 5:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons. We will be hosting a financial aid expert from Northern Kentucky University who will share information about state and federal funding, how the financial aid process works, and the difference between grants and loans. It’s never too early to think about the future and the many options that may be available to help offset the cost of college.

What careers are growing the fastest? How much training do I need to become a Vet Tech? How much money can I make as a computer technician? These are all questions that the Ohio Means Jobs website can help answer. Your son/daughter had the opportunity to learn about the website and we want to teach you too. Please join the counselors during conferences on
February 25th at 6:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons to learn about the tools we are using to help your child explore potential careers.

We will also be offering an informational session on Aspire. Aspire test scores will be mailed home February 19th. This session will walk through understanding and interpreting your child’s Aspire scores. There will also be a brief individual Q&A session after the whole group meeting. This will take place at 7:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons.
