The short answer: the top of the screen.

The long answer: we created a new menu, positioned above the MyConferenceTime logo, that provides more organization of the links and better usability on mobile devices.

The login link is no longer in the left column. The top of the site now looks like this before you log in. Do you notice the log in link in the top left?

After you log in, you’ll see the menu bar customized for your particular needs.

Why did you do this? I liked the old format!

  1. More and more people are using mobile devices. Having the links at the top of the screen works better with mobile devices. When a website visitor was logged in, he/she had to scroll past all of the links in the left column to get to the content. Now the links are in a nice menu at the top of the screen that stays out of the way on mobile devices.
  2. The top menu bar is always available. It stays anchored to the top, so if you’re looking at a long list of schedules but need to go to the Staff Account List (now called “Staff Summary”), just go to the “Summaries” menu. No scrolling required.
  3. We can easily add more links (and more options) to the menus at the top without cluttering the left column. Adding a link to the left column meant there was yet another link in a long list of links. Tech support phone calls will no longer include someone saying “the link is about 2/3 of the way down the left column – no – higher – yes, that one.”
  4. Everyone who is logged in (staff & admins) will see the same Staff Menu: “Options for [name]” that has links to create a new schedule, find a student, etc. (Staff with read-only privileges will not have links to add or copy schedules.)

  5. Admins now have their links grouped by categories so that it’s easier to locate them.
